BULLETIN #7

*** TROPICAL STORM WATCH DISCONTINUED … FLOODING STILL EXPECTED OVER JAMAICA THROUGH TONIGHT ***

The Tropical Storm Watch for Jamaica has been discontinued with immediate effect as the chance of tropical cyclone development
around the island has been significantly reduced.

Meanwhile, a Flash Flood Warning remains in effect for low-lying
and flood-prone areas of Westmoreland, St Elizabeth, Manchester, Clarendon, St Catherine, Kingston, St Andrew, St Thomas, Portland,
and St Mary. This means that flooding has been observed or will
occur shortly. A Flash Flood Watch also remains in effect for
other low-lying and flood-prone areas of the island until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow.

At 1:00 p.m. Potential Tropical Cyclone Number 22 was centred near latitude 18.0 degrees North, longitude 78.5 degrees West. This is about 39 kilometres (25 miles) south-southwest of Negril Point or
180 kilometres (112 miles) west-southwest of Kingston, Jamaica.

The system is moving faster towards the northeast near 26 km/h (16 mph), and additional acceleration toward the northeast is expected through the weekend. On the forecast track, the system is expected
to move across Jamaica this afternoon, and over southeastern Cuba,
the southeastern Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands on Saturday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 55 km/h (35 mph), with higher gusts. Some slight strengthening is possible during the next couple of days; however, the chance of tropical cyclone development has been decreasing. In this regard, the Tropical Storm Watch for Jamaica has been discontinued with immediate effect.

The poorly organized severe weather system continues to be a significant rainfall producer and flooding is likely to continue, resulting in landslides in some areas, mainly over southern and eastern parishes through this evening.

All small craft operators including fishers from the cays and banks are advised to remain in safe harbour until wind and sea conditions have returned to normal.

This is the final Bulletin that will be issued on this system; however, the Meteorological Service continues to monitor the weather conditions and may issue warning messages in other News Releases.
