Forecast Summary:

The Meteorological Service has issued a Severe Weather Alert effective until 5 a.m. tomorrow.

A large area of low pressure is forecasted to emerge over the southwestern Caribbean Sea by mid-week. This area of disturbed weather has a moderate probability to develop into a tropical depression and move northeastward across the western and central Caribbean Sea.

A Severe Weather Event is a meteorological or hydro-meteorological event that presents a risk of adverse impact to life, property or national infrastructure, on any geophysical scale and timescale of a few weeks or less, and that requires action to both communicate to the public and to the responsible authorities, and to reduce the impact (WMO Commission for Basic Systems 2005)
