****** MICHAEL STRENGTHENS TO A MAJOR HURRICANE... ...LIFE-THREATENING STORM SURGE...HURRICANE FORCE WINDS...AND HEAVY RAINFALL EXPECTED ALONG THE NORTHEASTERN GULF COAST...*** ***

At 4:00 p.m. the centre of Hurricane Michael was located near latitude 26.0 North,
longitude 86.4 West or 470 km south of Panama City. Michael is moving toward the north near 19 km/h.
A northward motion is expected through tonight, followed by a northeastward motion on Wednesday
and Thursday.
On the forecast track, the center of Michael will move across the eastern Gulf of Mexico
through tonight. The center of Michael is then expected to move inland over the Florida Panhandle or
Florida Big Bend area on Wednesday, and then move northeastward across the southeastern United States
Wednesday night and Thursday, and move off the Mid-Atlantic coast away from the United States on Friday.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 195 km/h with higher gusts. Michael is a category 3 hurricane
on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Some additional strengthening is expected, and Michael is
forecast to be a major hurricane at landfall in Florida. Weakening is expected after landfall as Michael
moves through the southeastern United States.

Hurricane Michael is not a threat to Jamaica.
The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor this system


Meanwhile,

*** LESLIE NEARS HURRICANE STRENGTH AGAIN***

At 4:00 p.m. the centre of Tropical Storm Leslie was located near latitude 30.3 North,
longitude 43.0 West or 1700 km west-southwest of the Azores. Leslie is moving toward the
east-southeast near 19 km/h and this general motion is expected to continue for the next day or so.
A slower motion and a turn toward the east-northeast or northeast is expected by Wednesday.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 110 km/h with higher gusts.
Additional strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days and Leslie will likely
become a hurricane tonight or tomorrow.

Tropical Storm Leslie is not a threat to Jamaica.
The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor this system


Meanwhile,

*** NADINE EXPECTED TO STRENGTHEN OVERNIGHT***

At 4:00 p.m. the centre of Tropical Storm Nadine was located near latitude 10.9 North,
longitude 30.6 West or 800 km west-southwest of the southernmost Cabo Verde Islands.
Nadine is moving toward the west north-west near 13 km/h and a motion generally toward the
northwest is anticipated over the next few days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 65 km/h with higher gusts. Some strengthening is possible
over the next day or so, with weakening anticipated on Thursday.

Tropical Storm Nadine is not a threat to Jamaica.
