FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, July 11, 2018 – 5:00 a.m.

CHRIS MOVING NORTHEASTWARD OVER THE OPEN ATLANTIC...

At 4:00 a.m., the centre of Hurricane Chris was
located near latitude 35.3 North, longitude 69.9 West or 510 km
east of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.
Chris is moving toward the northeast near 35 km/h.
This general motion with additional increase in forward speed is anticipated during the next two to three days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 165 km/h with higher
gusts. Chris has the opportunity to strengthen a little today or tonight. After that time, the hurricane is forecast to weaken and become a strong post-tropical cyclone by Thursday night or earlier.

Hurricane Chris is not a threat to Jamaica.
The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor this weather system.
