*** MINIATURE BERYL SPEEDING WESTWARD OVER THE TROPICAL ATLANTIC….***

At 4:00 p.m. the center of Hurricane Beryl was located near latitude 10.6 degrees north and longitude 47.8 degrees west or about 1555 km east southeast of the Lesser Antilles.

Beryl is moving toward the west near 24 km/h. A faster westward to west-northwestward motion is expected to begin over the weekend and continue through early next week.
On the forecast track, the center of Beryl will approach the Lesser Antilles over the weekend and cross the island chain late Sunday or Monday.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 130 km/h with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days, and Beryl could still be a hurricane when it reaches the Lesser Antilles late Sunday or Monday.
Weakening is expected once Beryl reaches the eastern Caribbean Sea on Monday, but the system may not degenerate into an open trough until it reaches the vicinity of Hispaniola and the central Caribbean Sea.


Hurricane Beryl is not a threat to Jamaica.

TROPICAL DEPRESSION FORMS WELL OFF THE NORTH CAROLINA COAST...
...EXPECTED TO REMAIN OFFSHORE...

At 4:00 p.m. the center of newly formed Tropical Depression Three was located near latitude 32.2 North, longitude 73.8 West.
The depression is moving toward the north-northwest near 7 km/h. The depression should slow down and meander of well offshore of the coast of North Carolina through Monday.
Maximum sustained winds are near 45 km/h with higher gusts. The depression is forecast to become a tropical storm on Saturday, with gradual strengthening expected through Monday. A reconnaissance plane is scheduled to investigate the cyclone on Saturday.
Tropical Depression Three is not a threat to Jamaica.

The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor this weather system.
