NEWS RELEASE

*** FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR NORTHERN AND SOUTHEASTERN PARISHES… ***

The Meteorological Service has extended:

• The Flash Flood Watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of Hanover, St. James, Trelawny, St. Ann, St. Mary, Portland, St. Thomas, Kingston and St. Andrew.

• Effective until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow.

• Although the Stationary Front across Jamaica has begun to dissipate, unstable weather conditions continue to persist across the island. Satellite imagery and Radar reports indicated that mostly cloudy conditions persisted across Jamaica, with occasional light showers affecting sections of mostly eastern parishes throughout the day.

• The projection is for mostly cloudy conditions, with periods of light showers to continue to affect sections of particularly northern and southeastern parishes tonight through to tomorrow afternoon. Flash flooding therefore remains a possibility over some low-lying and flood prone areas of northern and southeastern parishes.

• A FLASH FLOOD WATCH means that flash flooding is possible and residents are advised to take precautionary measures, keep informed by listening to further releases from the Meteorological Service and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a Warning is issued.

The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the situation.
