*** HARVEY MOVING THROUGH THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN SEA ***


At 4:00 p.m. the centre of Tropical Storm Harvey was located near latitude 13.4 degrees north, longitude 62.9 degrees west or 650 km south southeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Harvey is moving toward the west near 33 km/h, and this general motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days. On the forecast track, the centre of Harvey will move through the central Caribbean Sea Saturday and Sunday.

Maximum sustained winds remain near 65 km/h with higher gusts and slow strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours.

Although the centre of Tropical Storm Harvey is forecast to pass south of Jamaica, the island is expected to experience cloudy conditions with showers and thunderstorms mainly on Sunday and Monday. Windy conditions are also expected over mainly southern parishes on Sunday through Monday.

Marine interests, especially small craft operators who are in-port are advised not to venture out and those on the cays and banks south of Jamaica are advised to remain in safe harbour and exercise extreme caution as Tropical Storm Harvey traverses the waters south of Jamaica.

Tropical Storm Harvey is not a direct threat to Jamaica at this time.

The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor this system.
